Congratulations are going out to Serena Williams for defeating Maria Sharapova and winning her 16th Grand Slam title and her first French Open championship since 2002!

According to Huffington Post, Serena Williams, at 31-years-old became the oldest woman to win a major title since Martina Navratilova at Wimbledon in 1990 at age 33.

Williams improved to 14-2 against Sharapova and had 10 aces, including three in the last match. Her career-best winning streak now stands at 31 matches.

Since losing  in the first round a year ago, she has since gone on to a record of 74-3. This includes wins at Wimbledon, the U.S. Open, the London Olympics and WTA Championships.

We salute you Ms. Williams, you didn’t let that tough season last year defeat you by any means! Congratulations again on a season that has been amazing to watch!
