Memphis Urban League Young Professionals (MULYP) is so excited to host the inaugural Empowerment Conference and celebrate 10 years of empowering communities and changing lives. This conference will offer great leadership development opportunities for young professionals in the Memphis community. Young Professionals will learn from and engage in dialogue with local executive corporate and community leaders with the purpose of understanding how to manage their fears, effectively evaluate risk, and develop an executable career plan that optimizes their talents and dreams.

Aaron Arnold is CEO of Music Is My Business, one of “America’s Smartest New Companies led by people under 30,” according to Inc. Magazine. He has held executive positions at four of the top-five global PR/marketing firms including Hill & Knowlton in New York as well as Edelman and Ketchum in Chicago. Upon a decision to pursue his passion for music, Aaron left the corporate world for an unpaid internship at Bad Boy Records. Within six months, he became a valued member of Sean ”Diddy” Combs’ executive team as an assistant. After a year’s time, Aaron moved forward to launch his own music company with the goal of changing the way business is done in the music industry.

Description: In today’s society, young professionals are constantly on the move. In the midst of responding to the demands of work and family, the health of the professional is often overlooked. This workshop discusses the importance of being healthy and how emphasizing wellness is important to your professional and personal well-being. Guidance and tips on how to incorporate healthy habits into your daily routine will be discussed as well.
We Develop Me: Building Your Brand Description: Personal branding is the process of developing a “mark” that is created around your personal name or your career. You use this “mark” to express and communicate your skills, personality and values. The end goal is that the personal brand that you develop will build your reputation and help you to grow your network in a way that interests others. They will then seek you out for your knowledge and expertise.
Advocate: Amplify Your Voice Description: Discuss what it means to be and advocate and how young professionals can make their voice heard on a local and national level.
Bridging The Gap: The Importance of Mentoring Description: Mentoring has a huge impact not only on the mentee but the mentor as well. Discusses why young professionals should not only be mentors but should also seek out their own mentors.
Creating Minority Wealth Description: In order to close the gap wealth gap, it is important to teach and discuss wealth management techniques that minorities can employ to leverage the economic playing field.
Breaking Barriers: How to Make Next Level Career Moves Description: An interactive session that discusses the barriers that keep young professionals from being able to make an impact in professional world and the steps that can be taken to mitigate the

Social & Economic Empowerment: The Evolution of Young Professionals
Description: Discusses the impact that young professionals have on the social and economic landscape. In the last 10 years, young professionals have changed how the world tackles social issues and are challenging the convention that you cannot make a difference and make a dollar.

Mixology is the fusion of art music and exotic beverages. The event will include several local disk jockeys exploring Pop, Hip-Hop and R&B music. There will be decadent pastries and lavish food provided by local small catering companies. The unique concept about Mixology is the various bartenders from different local bars and restaurants around the city mixing up exclusive drinks.
